Based in the small South Texas town of Devine, and hence the album title "78016", "South of Nowhere" began as a recording project in 2003 and has since turned into a full-fledged band. Original members Butch Cook, Layne Bales and Pat Bourcier were joined in the recording studio by several noted musicians including Ron Knuth on fiddle, Mike Kennedy (George Strait..s "Ace in the Hole Band") on drums, and Augie Meyers (Texas Tornadoes) for an album that can truly be described as "south of nowhere" with a unique sound all its own. Devine natives Sybilla Irwin, Tommy Calame and Mario Cassiano also contributed to the project along with Wade Parker, Randy Reinhard, and Ginger Leigh.
Since the completion of "78016" and subsequent release, the trio of friends were fortunate to have more outstanding musicians join the band with Barrlynn West (lead guitar) and Mario Cassiano (lead guitar) and began a promotional tour in early 2006. In late 2006, the band began writing new music and re-writing some unfinished single music compilations. SON recently recorded two new singles and pre-releasing "Sweat Home Texas" and a new version of "Roberto Bear" for radio station FM 92.5 "The Outlaw" in which you can hear both being played today and will soon be available to purchase here on our music store.
Additionally SON wishes to thank Adan Salinas (drums) and Holly Smith (percussion and backup vocals) for joining us for some time during our 2006/2007 tours and recording sessions. These talented musicians are great and we're proud they joined us in many performances and recording sessions. We look forward to working with them in future projects.
We are currently creating new songs for our 2nd album. We're excited about getting this project completed. Additionally, we're busy doing all the other things life demands (you know, like getting our kids graduated, through baseball season) and all the other work stuff we got to and......... have fun!
So, keep your eyes on the ball and your ears to the ground, we'll be done soon and back on the road to see you all.
